The Forbidden City

It was hot and it was crowded and being a national holiday, probably the worst time to visit but we enjoyed the Forbidden City.  Amazing architecture.  The pottery was a real highlight.  The put the collection in chronological order so you could not only see the oldest pottery discovered (6000 BC, I think) but you could see the progression as different dynasties improved technique.
The twins were like rock stars everywhere we went.  People were also asking for pictures which the girls were willing but reluctant to take part it.  Some would try to be sneaky but some would just ask. It usually involved kids.  Sometimes if you had 10 minutes with a kid on the subway we would start teaching each other words.
One of the highlights of Beijing was linking up with Ross, an Astro Portal student.  Ross is a remarkable kid and managed to do the same work my seniors do in two weeks of spare time last summer.  He was also an amazing host, showing us around the Forbidden City and introducing us to his parents over dinner.
